Red Sox just wasted a bunch of money on washed up starting pitcher Lucas Giolito

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Red Sox have reached a two-year, $38,5 million contract with right-hander Lucas Giolito.

If this is their big offseason acquisition then the Red Sox are basically the Colorado Rockies of the AL East. They added another past prime player praying for a bounceback season.

Giolito will make $18 million next season and either $19 million or a $1 million buyout in 2025. The 29-year-old posted a 4.88 ERA and 204/73 K/BB ratio in 184 1/3 innings over 33 starts last season between the White Sox, Angels, and Guardians. Giolito struggled mightily after being traded to the Angels from Chicago, especially with the home run ball. Giolito will eat some innings, but that is about all he will do. I expect him to get eaten alive in the AL East.

If this is our big signing John Henry should be put in jail for armed robbery with the prices we pay for tickets. Red Sox ownership truly stopped giving a shit about the fanbase. They think they can just grab any 3rd rate reclamation project off the free agent pile to sell tickets,  and play Sweet Caroline to make everything OK.

Do better John Henry!
