Patriots Receive Two More Draft Picks Including The Top Compensatory Pick In The Draft

The New England Patriots will be getting some extra picks during this years NFL Draft after losing multiple key players to free agency last year. The Patriots will be getting two extra picks this season, one in the 3rd round which is the best compensatory pick for the loss of Tom Brady, the 96th pick overall. They will also get another pick in the 4th round at pick #140.

The Patriots are also being awarded consolation for the loss on linebackers Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins, as well as Tom Brady.

The Patriots were expected to get more for the loss of the two linebackers but the league office screwed them over as usual.

According to the NFL the Patriots key free agent moves were:

Losses: QB Tom Brady, LB Jamie Collins, OL Jamie Collins, DL Danny Shelton, LB Kyle Van Noy

Gains: DL Beau Allen, WR Damiere Byrd, DB Adrian Phillips

The extra pick is nice, but the NFL should make it harder for franchise players to leave in Free Agency. A late third round pick does not come remotely close to recovering for the loss of Tom Brady.
