With the No. 37 overall pick the Patriots select WR Ja’Lynn Polk

After selecting Drake Maye with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have potentially found their top target for the upcoming season and the future. Ja’Lynn Polk, a wide receiver from the University of Washington, is rumored to have significantly improved his draft stock during the pre-draft evaluation process. At 6’1” and 203 pounds, Polk showcased his athleticism by running a 4.52-second 40-yard dash at the combine. His impressive vertical and broad jumps further solidified his potential as a playmaker.

Over his last two college seasons, Polk accumulated an impressive 110 receptions for 1,853 yards and 15 touchdowns. He played alongside fellow standout receivers Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan, catching passes from quarterback Michael Penix. While Polk may not possess elite speed and burst, he gained recognition for his ability to make contested catches. His contested catch rate of 51 percent demonstrates his reliability in challenging situations.

With experience both outside and in the slot, Polk brings versatility to the New England offense.

Here is Field Yates raving about the pick from the “First Draft” podcast:

“Spent one year at Texas Tech. Came from the same high school as Dez Bryant. This guy is tough. He makes so many contested catches; so many catches that aren’t necessarily the highlight reel [type] but are in tight areas, or when he’s posting up a perimeter corner. Doing things outside of his frame so consistently. Making the difficult things look effortless.

“I think the run-after-catch skill is fine. I get it – he had a 4.52 ‘40’; he’s not going to blow you away in that regard. But if you’re looking for a guy who is consistently making the difficult things look easy, it’s Ja’Lynn Polk. He had a wonderful game against Michigan State in which he was making catches like he was part of cirque du soleil.

“Was great at the pro day. Love seeing the energy he brought to the table. I’m in on Ja’Lynn Polk; I think he deserves to go somewhere in the second round.”
