Video: Red Sox Top Prospect Marcelo Mayer’s Hot Bat Continues With 3 Doubles For Single-A Salem

Boston Red Sox #1 prospect Marcelo Mayer went 3-for-6 with three doubles, and two RBI in the Salem Red Sox 8-7 extra inning loss today. The highly touted 19-year-old has slashed an amazing .343/.397/.522 over 73 plate appearances so far this season.

Mayer who was selected #4 overall by the Red Sox in the 2021 draft is not expected to reach the big leagues until 2024 at the earliest, but with Xander Bogaerts impending free agency in the offseason, the quicker Mayer can get here the better. If Bogaerts ends up walking in the offseason the Sox could switch Trevor Story to SS until Mayer is ready to take over duties as the Sox future franchise shortstop.
