The NBA announced big changes to its postseason awards that will honor two of the greatest stars to ever play. The Eastern and Western Conference MVP will be named after Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird, as Los Angeles Lakers legend Earvin Magic Johnson.
The couldn’t be a more deserving choice for these awards. Bird and Johnson put the NBA on the map back in the 1980’s, and created a legendary Celtics-Lakers rivalry.
Larry Bird had a hilarious reaction when he learned the news.
“I just wish I could win one of them Magic Johnson trophies,” Larry Bird said. “That would be the highlight of my career.”
