Patriots Have Officially Terminated Julian Edelman’s Contract After A Failed Physical
It is a sad day for Patriots fans after the Patriots announced they will be releasing Julian Edelman after 11 seasons after he failed his latest physical. Edelman’s had already been thinking about retirement because of severe damage to his knee. There’s also a chance Tom Brady tries to bring him to Tampa Bay for one final season, but most likely Edelman simply walking away after winning three rings and one Super Bowl MVP award in 11 seasons with New England. The transaction frees up $3.4 million in cap space for the Pats.
The Patriots will be counting on Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Myers as their top receivers headed into next season.
While Julian Edelman showed up on today's transaction wire as having his contract terminated by the Patriots, Edelman has been mulling retirement and this could just be a precursor to that announcement.

While Julian Edelman showed up on the NFL transaction wire today as having his contract terminated by the Patriots, the expectation is that it is a technicality as part of a retirement, per @MikeReiss.

Julian Edelman is an ultimate story in hard work and development. A college QB turned WR with time spent at CB & punt returner.
He also has the second-most catches and yards in NFL postseason history.
And he’s the author of one of the great catches in Super Bowl history. pic.twitter.com/XiIxlpdiZN
