Jarrett Stidham’s Injury Ends Any Speculation Of Him Beating Out Cam Newton For The Starting Job

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Jarrett Stidham is dealing with a hip injury that is causing “discomfort.” The injury will reportedly take a few weeks to heal, but Stidham is still planning on fighting through it. Stidham had a very limited practice earlier today.

Stidham’s injury , and his recent performance should end any speculation of a starting quarterback battle, and clearly opens the door for Cam Newton to lock down the starting job. Cam will be seeing all the first team reps, and should be afforded every opportunity to prove himself. The alternative is Brian Hoyer, so if Cam is not able to beat him out, the Patriots offense would be in for a brutal season.

There are only 23 days left before the first game of the season against the Miami Dolphins.
