Jamie Collins Ejected From His First Game In Detroit After Headbutting Referee
Former Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins, career didn’t get off to a great start in Detroit. Collins signed a three-year, $30 million deal with Detroit in the offseason, but was unable to make it all the way through the first half of his first game before he got ejected for headbutting a referee.
Collins obviously hit the ref with his head by accident, but the NFL enforces a zero contact policy with the referees. Collins was trying to demonstrate how Bears running back David Montgomery was leading with the crown of his helmet.
Collins received a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and was disqualified from the game. The ref probably could have moved out of the way, but any contact with an NFL referee is an automatic ejection, regardless of how hard you hit them, and Collins should have known better to get that close.
