Gronk Brags That He Received The Buccaneers Playbook Weeks Ago While Under Contract With The Patriots

Rob Gronkowski had some interesting news about how he ended up getting recruited by Tampa Bay, unfortunately for his team, Gronks latest revelations could land the Buccaneers in trouble. In a recent appearance on “Drafterparty” Gronk was discussing Cincinnati Bengals #1 draft pick, Joe Burrow, and how he was reportedly studying the Bengals playbook for weeks before the draft. The problem here is Gronk was still under contract with the Patriots. Pro Football Talk reported Wednesday that “it’s possible that the Bucs may have fractured a rule or two” after the tight end told a YouTube audience over the weekend that he had the team’s playbook well before he was traded to Tampa Bay.

“I was in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers playbook four weeks ago, and I wasn’t even on the team,” Gronkowski said, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.

“While Gronk having the playbook may not be a rules violation in and of itself, how he got it could be. Until he was traded last week from New England to Tampa Bay, Gronkowski continued to be under contract with the Patriots. If the Buccaneers were having direct communications with Gronk about joining the team, and if getting him the playbook was simply part of the process, that could be a potential problem for Tampa Bay.”

The Patriots did not complain about the way the Bucs signed Tom Brady so quickly and it could be possible that they were aware of a potential trade and may have given the Buccaneers permission to coax Gronk out of retirement. If for some reason the Patriots were unaware of this situation they would definetly have reason to challenge it.

Some teams had already rasked if Brady and Leftwich were breaking NFL rules with the meeting, but the NFL later said the “brief personal visit” was OK. This might be a little tougher to clean up though and Gronk’s mouth may have gotten them in trouble this time.
