Brandin Cooks Says “If it’s too hard to play for Bill Belichick, that must mean you don’t like to work hard”

Other former Patriots players have made complaints about the hardline stance Bill Belichick has on hard work and perfection, but don’t count former WR Brandin Cooks among them. He has a much different take than many of those players who got a chance to win here.

When asked about the difficulty of playing under Belichick and the difficulty of learning the playbook, Cooks responded with what you would like to hear out of a good team player.

“Not at all. I have to say that’s one of my favorite places that I’ve ever played. Especially when you’re winning, how is it hard to play there? I’ve got a lot of respect for Coach Belichick and, at the time, Tom and Josh McDaniels.

“I think if it’s too hard for you, that must mean you don’t like to work hard. Now, you grind, don’t get me wrong but there’s fun in that as well.”

“To be honest with you, it wasn’t difficult at all for me to learn,” Cooks said. “I say that because I was able to go right in there and not miss a beat and hop in and be able to run the plays right away. I think it’s all about studying at the end of the day, taking time and focusing on studying the plays. For me it wasn’t hard.”

Like it or not, Bill Belichick’s ability to control every facet of the team is a large reason they were able to remain at the top for so long. That’s how it works. There are a lot of players in the NFL, that care more about the money than winning, but you don’t get to do that in Foxborough.
