If you were hoping this would be the end of the Belichick era you may be disappointed to hear the latest report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. According to Rapoport, Belichick agreed to a “lucrative” multi-year contract extension with the New England Patriots.

“Sources say Bill Belichick, during the offseason, quietly agreed to terms on a lucrative multi-year new contract…it’s fair to say there was at least some uncertainty or intrigue surrounding him. Now, contractually, he is locked up long term.”

Rapoport did not disclose the specifics, but you would have to assume it is a very expensive deal, and that Robert Kraft has no intention of eating the contract after another disappointing season. the Patriots currently have the most cap space headed into next season, and if they can go into tank mode, perhaps they can fix their current situation sooner than later.
