A Cincinnati Reporter Is Claiming The Patriots Videotapped The Bengals Play Calls On Sunday

It is that time of year again when ESPN needs a ratings boost. An ESPN reporter is insinuating the Patriots are being accused of cheating once again. During the Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor’s press conference this afternoon, a beat reporter asked if he could confirm if a Patriots employee was caught videotaping their play calls during their last game.

In question is a Patriots official had a videographer filming the Bengals sideline from the press box on Sunday, where scouts of teams normally sit. Zac Taylor had no comment only saying he was “aware there was an incident” and “the league was investigating it,” but had no comment.

Before this becomes another national emergency, everyone needs to take a step back and await the results. The reality is all 32 teams currently film games and signals for post game analysis. It is only illegal to film from certain areas on the sidelines and you can not use the footage to gain an advantage during the same game.

I find it extremely hard to believe the Patriots would get caught illegally filming the 1-12 Bengals in plain sight. Then again I wouldn’t put anything past Roger Goodell and the league office to make up some bullshit rule on the fly just to make the Patriots look bad.

Update:
According to Adam Schefter, Patriots’ advance scout was not filming but being filmed, per a league source. He was being filmed for a feature the team produced called, “Do Your Job.” The video crew was credentialed by the Browns to shoot video in the press box and their PR person was aware, per the source
