Tom Brady Sacrificed $60 Million To Keep The Patriots Dynasty Intact

Chances are when Tom Brady eventually retires, we will never see a dynasty like this again in our lifetime. Everything had to be perfect for a dynasty to even exist in the salary cap era and even if a team could pull it off, no dynasty was supposed to last past a handful of seasons. The Patriots lucked into the perfect blend of having the best quarterback, coach, and ownership in the history of the game converge at the same time. All that is great, but there is one overlooked factor that I believe will prevent anyone from ever matching the Patriots incredible 19 year run. It all comes down to the mighty dollar.

With the recent wave of massive contracts around the NFL and MLB, there is one reaccuring theme. Players are not leaving any money on the table. Star players are going after every penny they can get in their new contracts. That may work out for their wallets, but it won’t be of much help to surround them with adequate players to bring home a championship, nevermind multiple titles. That is where Brady has been able to separate himself from the rest. Now some players may complain that it is easier for Brady to take a discount when you factor in Gisele’s net worth is double his but the reality is, what can you do with $150 million that you can’t do with $30 million less? Brady was already taking discounts before he met her. Brady’s willingness to leave some money on the table for the opportunity to win more championships is a move that few if any are willing to do. This will likely cement Brady as the NFL’s greatest champion for as long as the league exists.
