The Patriots Have Gained Another $9 Million In Cap Space For The Season
Heading into the offseason the Patriots were having major salary cap issues with only $1 million in cap space. Although they lost numerous players that have recently opted out of the 2020 season, the Patriots now have plenty of spending money for free agents. The Patriots gained another $9 million last night after the NFL management council informed them that signing bonus prorations for players who opted out of the 2020 NFL season will be removed from the team’s payroll and moved to the 2021 season.
The Patriots definetly have some tough holes to fill after some key player opted out, but Bill Belichick now has over $35 million dollars to go shopping with in free agency. The Patriots have the third-most cap space in the league. Only the Cleveland Browns and Washington have more at the moment.
My new 2020 Patriots salary cap space number is $35,282,801. These signing bonus prorations will now become part of the player's 2021 cap number. https://t.co/YUwgf72Ksp
