The Patriots Gave Antonio Brown A $20 Million Option For 2020
Antonio Brown’s one-year contract with the Patriots includes a fully guaranteed $20-million option for 2020. This was done for cap purposes, but that doesn’t mean the Patriots will not use the option next season if Brown is on his best behavior. Belichick has to believe that Tom Brady is in the twilight of his career, although he hasn’t shown any signs of being close to the end. It makes sense for the Patriots to load up and go for it every year as long as he is around though.
The Patriots hold all the cards in this deal as they would receive a 3rd round draft pick next season if Brown should opt for free agency. The Patriots offense already looks unstoppable without him after demolishing the Steelers last night. Adding Brown to the mix will only make them more explosive and force teams into single coverage against Gordon and Edelman.
The Patriots are 16-point road favorites heading into next week’s battle with the Dolphins, who are coached by former New England assistant Brian Flores.
Patriots added an option year for Antonio Brown in 2020 at $20 million which becomes guaranteed if executed, per source. It was done to help for cap proration purposes this season.
