The Patriots Are In Better Position To Draft A Quarterback After Sam Darnold Was Traded To The Carolina Panthers

The New England Patriots got good news this afternoon when New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was traded away to the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers were another team that picks in front of the Patriots that was looking for a new quarterback

The Panthers are sending a 2021 6th round pick to New York, and a 2nd and 4th round pick in 2022.

Darnold was the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft, but was never able to get established with the Jets because they lacked offensive weapons. He should not have that issue in Carolina where he will challenge Teddy Bridgewater for the starting role. The Jets were expected to grab a top 3 QB regardless of what happened with Darnold. The trade does not guarantee the Panthers will not draft a QB with the 8th overall pick, but it does suggest they will be looking in a different direction. With Denver being the only other team that appears to be looking for a QB this can give the Patriots a better chance to land a top 5 quarterback in this years draft.
