Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Said A Text From Bill Belichick Is The Highlight Of The Year
Moments before an epic Game 3 win over the Tampa Bay Ray in the American League divisional series, Alex Cora got a special message on his phone.
It was a message from Bill Belichick wishing the Red Sox manager luck against the Rays.
“I got a text from him finally,” Cora said before Sunday’s 13-inning win. “Bill texted me the other day. So I’m in the club, that’s huge. That’s like the highlight of the year to be honest with you.
“We did a show a few years ago for the Jimmy Fund. And it was all the (Boston) coaches and Bill was on the phone because they had a practice. So we were joking not too long ago… that I need his number. All of a sudden I got the text from this random area code. And then I read it and I was like, ‘Wow.’ That’s cool to be honest with you. For somebody of his status to take his time and wish us luck and then send another text — honestly, out of the week, that was like the coolest thing ever. I loved it.”
Cora said Belichick reached out before Tuesday’s wild-card victory over the New York Yankees, and texted again after. Although the two have met before, including when the 2018 World Series champions were honored before a Patriots game at Gillette Stadium, “This is more personal,” Cora said.
There is a mutual admiration between the two coaches.

2018 was so awesome.
