Red Sox 2B Trevor Story Expected To Miss 4-6 Months Following Surgery
The Red Sox can’t seem to catch a break. According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, 2nd baseman Trevor Story is likely to miss 4-to-6 months after undergoing right elbow surgery. The Red Sox were aware of the possibility when they signed him to a 6-year $140 million dollar contract last season.
There is currently no timetable for Story to return to the team at the moment after undergoing an internal brace procedure on Monday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. It’s a modified procedure from Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery with a quicker return date, but he’s likely to miss significant time to open the 2023 season. It’s unclear how Boston’s front office will address his absence at this point.
This is probably something that should have been handled at the end of last season. If everything goes well, Story should return before the All-Star break.
Trevor Story underwent UCL surgery with an internal brace on his right elbow — in other words, modified Tommy John surgery with a quicker return date.
Generally speaking, players miss four to six months following the surgery.
