Patriots Will Be Getting A Big Additional Salary Cap Boost On Top Of Their Cap Space For Next Season

Things were already looking up for the Patriots this offseason and now they will also be getting a big boost to their salary cap in 2021.

ESPN’s Field Yates released numbers on how much cap space teams will carry over into the 2021 season. According to Yates, the Patriots will roll over $19,571,247 in cap space for next season. That ranks as the sixth-highest number in the league, and will add on to the projected $60 million they will already have if the salary cap remains the same. This could become even more important if the NFL salary cap gets readjusted and set at $175 million next season.

This will be the first time in decades that the Patriots will enter the offseason with a surplus of spending cash. For years the offseason has been a miserable time for Patriots fans as we had to sit back and watch other teams purge away some of our favorite players every year. That is the price of success, and last season it finally caught up with the Patriots.

Bill Belichick should have a field day heading into this offseason of uncertainty with deep pockets. The best bargain shopper in the league should have no problem finding the missing pieces to restore the Patriots back to greatness, as well as the ability to keep key players that are heading into free agency.

The Patriots will only have $799,401 in dead money this offseason compared to $32 million in dead money last season with, Tom Brady ($13.5 million), Antonio Brown ($4.75 million), Stephon Gostkowski ($3.2 million), Michael Bennett ($2 million) and Duron Harmon ($1.25 million) all coming off the books.
