Patriots surprisingly waive Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham
In a shocking move the New England Patriots have released both Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham.
That leaves the Patriots with just Mac Jones at quarterback.
Zappe fever is officially over in Foxborough. Many thought Zappe would be given an opportunity to challenge Mac for the job, but it is clear that that the Pats are riding with Mac now. Zappe appeared in four games with two starts as a rookie. He completed 71 percent of his passes for 781 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions good for a 100.9 passer rating.
Cunningham, an undrafted free agent out of Louisville, was 3-of-6 passing for 19 yards while he rushed for 39 yards on six carries. He also caught a pass and took back a kickoff for 21 yards. He built up a lot of hype of his own during the preseason, but Bill Belichick has other plans.
The #Patriots are waiving QB/WR Malik Cunningham and also waiving QB Bailey Zappe, per @jeffphowe and @RapSheet.
