Patriots re-sign Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham to the practice squad
Guess who’s back, back again? Zappe’s back, tell a friend.
Less than 24 hours after surprisingly being released by the New England Patriots a few familiar faces have already returned. The New England Patriots have re-signed quarterback 2nd year quarterback Bailey Zappe and third-stringer Malik Cunningham on Tuesday.
Mac Jones was left without a backup after yesterday’s cuts but the plan seems to have worked in the Patriots favor with both players being placed on the practice squad.
Cunningham was a four-year starter at Louisville as a dual-threat quarterback looking to make the Patriots roster as an undrafted rookie. It wasn’t immediately clear on Tuesday why the Patriots made the moves and what their plan is moving forward at backup quarterback. They are expected to reach a decision on who will backup Mac Jones before the season starts.
Update: Both former #Patriots QBs Malik Cunningham and Bailey Zappe went unclaimed by other NFL teams.
