New Patriots WR DeVante Parker Requested A Trade To New England

The Patriots newest receiver had many teams interested in his services, but Parker let Miami know exactly where he wanted to go.

The Miami Dolphins and DeVante Parker’s camp had trade talks with the Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, but in the end Miami ultimately granted Parker his wish.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also reports that Parker made it “very clear” that he wanted to play football for the Patriots.

“This is someone that coach Bill Belichick has liked for a long time,” Rapoport said. “Has always respected his skill set and really somebody he considered to be be a solid addition to his receiving core. And then it went the other way too. DeVante Parker wanted to be a member of the New England Patriots. He didn’t have a no-trade clause, so he didn’t have the power like that. It’s not like he’s Russell Wilson. But from my understanding, he made it very clear that he wanted to be a member of the Patriots. As soon as general manager Chris Grier realized that was the best deal that they could get, it worked out well for all sides.”

The Patriots traded a third-round pick to Miami for Parker and a 5th round pick.

“He’s got a very, very good skill set,” Belichick said. “He’s a big athlete that runs well. Has good hands, good run after the catch ability, and good quickness for his size. So, he presents a lot of problems on deep balls. He’s a big target on the end of routes, in cuts and crossing routes, things like that. He’s strong and can break tackles as a catcher or run player, so he attacks all three levels of the defense and can be productive at all three spots.”
