New England Patriots Not Expected to Pick Up Mac Jones’ Fifth-Year Option
According to a report by CBS Sports, the New England Patriots are not expected to pick up Mac Jones’ fifth-year option and are open to trading the quarterback. Jones was benched towards the end of the 2023 season, and the Patriots have the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which they are expected to use to bring in a new quarterback.
Jones signed a four-year contract with the Patriots in 2021, which included a $8.7 million signing bonus and $15.6 million guaranteed. In 2024, Jones will earn a base salary of $2.8 million, while carrying a cap hit of $5 million and a dead cap value of $5 million.
The upcoming NFL season could determine Jones’ future with the Patriots. If he has a good season, the Patriots may consider offering him a fifth-year option.
It will not be a huge surprise if Mac is moved before the upcoming NFL Draft.
