Michael Bennett Was Deeply Moved At How Bill Belichick Treated Him For His Absence

Bill Belichick is known for being a ruthless, no-nonsense coach. Hell, if you’re late for practice or ask for anything more than he feels you deserve he will cut you or send you to the bowels of the NFL. When Michael Bennett didn’t show up the other day, many wondered what happened to him. This had all the looks that it probably not going to be a great start for him with the Patriots. Apparently whatever reason he gave was fully excused and Bennett had high praise for coach Belichick for the way he treated him.

“I had a personal reason,” Bennett told reporters outside Gillette Stadium on Sunday. “I didn’t retire. Everybody said I retired. I was laughing at home. I didn’t retire. No, I just had a family issue that I had to go take care of. I was lucky Coach Belichick — it’s nice when you have a coach that sees you as a human, sees you as a human being, not just a number and you’re able to go talk to him, tell him what’s going on, and you’re able to go take care of it. That just makes you want to play harder for a coach, when he believes in you and lets you take care of your family first.”

Wow, so it appears that instead of the worst case scenario, Belichick hit his new defensive end in the feels to inspire him. Bennett does come with some baggage but Belichick has gotten the best out of these type of players in the past and Bennett is apparently fully on board with what the hoodie is selling him.
