Legendary Boxer Marvelous Marvin Hagler Has Passed Away
Boxing legend Marvin Hagler died on Saturday at 66 years old, according to his wife.
“Today unfortunately my beloved husband Marvelous Marvin passed away unexpectedly at his home here in New Hampshire,” Kay Hagler wrote on the legendary boxer’s official Facebook page.
Hagler ruled the middleweight division for much of the 1980s as undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987. He first won the world title in 1980 and heldit until the last fight of his career, a controversial loss to Sugar Ray Leonard in 1987. Hagler is considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of all-time, beating fighters like Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran in his domination of the middleweight division. Hagler made twelve successful title defenses, and holds the highest knockout percentage of all undisputed middleweight champions, at 78%, while also holding the Third-longest unified championship reign in boxing history at twelve consecutive defenses.
