Jimmy Garoppolo Nearly Died Moments After Being Traded By The Patriots

Talk about a bad omen. Moments after Jimmy Garoppolo was traded by the Patriots to the 49ers the day before Halloween in 2017. Jimmy almost never made the trip. On his way to the airport for his first early flight to San Francisco, on Halloween he Jimmy’s driver was forced to drive off the road into a ditch.

“A car jumped off the exit ramp, and was coming downhill at us, toward the driver’s side window,” Garoppolo said on NBC Sports Bay Area’s “49ers Talk.”

“I just saw headlights and the driver reacted, got us off into a ditch. It happened so fast. I’m in a panic in the backseat, like, ‘Holy shit we almost just died, man.’”

“The driver turned around. I’ll never forget it, he was like, ‘Whoa! That was awesome!’ ” Garoppolo recalled. “And I was like, ‘That was not awesome. That was crazy. But great job!’

“It was an interesting morning. Definitely a great start to coming out west.”

Thankfully Jimmy was OK. I would hate to hear the garbage people would say about the Patriots if something happened to Jimmy on his way out.

Garoppolo, is back in New England for the first time since he was traded.
