David Price Opts Out For The 2020 MLB Season

Former Red Sox staring pitcher David Price was traded along with Mookie Betts in the offseason has announced he will forego $11 million dollars and forego the 2020 season.

Even though Price will not be playing this season he made an immediate impact on the Dodgers organization when he decided to support some of the minor league players out of pocket that are not getting paid this season.

The Red Sox moved Price earlier this offseason to shed salary since they were not able to sign Mookie Betts to a long term deal in excess of $300 million dollars. As hard as it was to see Mookie go, this could end up being the best thing that could have happened to the Sox under the current circumstances. Mookie will be hard pressed to get a contract like that in the current climate and Price was grossly overpaid.

This will be good news for the Red Sox who will save around $6 million dollars for the remainder of the season of the percentage of salary they agreed to pay in the trade.
