ESPN’s Pedro Gomez reports that a deal between the Red Sox and J.D. Martinez is “done.”
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports was first to report that there was momentum for a deal between the two sides, and Gomez says they have completed the deal. Alex Speier of the Boston Globe hears that it will be a five-year contract, although he’s not sure whether opt-outs or options are included. It’s been reported previously that the Red Sox had been offering Martinez a five-year pact in the $100-125 million range.
A solid deal for the Red Sox as they can now add a much needed power hitter to the lineup. They landed Martinez at relatively good price with the weakened free agent market.
JD Martinez deal with #Redsox finally and officially done. He is expected to earn at least $21 million a year.
