The Patriots Have Released Kicker Mike Nugent

Bill Belichick has seen enough of Mike Nugent. Nugent made it just four games as Stephen Gostkowski’s fill-in, and shanked 3 of his 8 field goal attempts. His extra points were not much better. Instead the Pats are likely to take a look at 44 year old Matt Bryant who was just released by the Atlanta Falcons. He has a much stronger leg, but Pats fans should temper their expectations with whoever they go with. We have been spoiled for the past two decades with two of the greatest kickers in NFL history. Stephen Gostkowski took a lot of heat earlier in the season but the reality is the Pats can not replace him with someone better. Gostkowski can not come back soon enough, unfortunately that will not be until next season.
