The Boston Herald Released A Statement Following Ron Borges False Report About Tom Brady

The Boston Herald released a statement Friday afternoon addressing Ron Borges article that claimed Tom Brady is going to hold out for a contract comparable to the one Jimmy Garoppolo signed with the San Francisco 49ers yesterday.

“A column by Ron Borges in today’s Herald regarding Patriot Tom Brady’s salary discussions was based on information which proved to be false,” it reads. “The Herald apologizes to Brady, his agent Don Yee and the Patriots, and to our readers for this erroneous report. Borges’ column has been suspended pending further review.”

WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan revealed Friday morning that a WEEI listener going by the name of “Nick in Boston” was pretending to be Tom Brady’s agent Don Yee when texting Borges. The texts informed Borges that Brady was intent on sitting out the Patriots’ OTAs unless he was compensated like his former backup. Borges then took the story and ran with it without checking his sources and landing him in hot water.
