Rex Ryan Says The Patriot Way Has Always Pissed Him Off

Rex Ryan has taken his share of beatings from the New England Patriots and was never a fan of the “Patriot Way”. Bill Belichick may deny it’s existence but the Patriot way has been a certain mind frame instilled in the players and coaches to watch what they do and say in public and interactions with the media.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Ryan talked about his disdain for the Patriot Way.

Your mentality is, you have to go in there like you’re in a fistfight,” Ryan told ESPN.com. “That has to be your mentality. I used to tell our guys, ‘Don’t take any crap off those guys. None. I don’t care what that means. By any means necessary’”

Ryan’s teams routinely took the L against the Patriots. Throughout his coaching career, Rex had a 4-12 record in the regular season vs Belichick and the Patriots.

“You know what ticked me off is they thought they were better than us, not just as a team, but they thought they were doing something special, they were a better organization,” Ryan said. “That pissed me off, man. The Patriot Way. I was like, the Jet Way is to beat the hell out of you.”

Rex can be pissed off all he wants. Ryan’s coaching tenure turned the Jets and Bills into dumpster fires for the better part of the decade. Meanwhile in Foxborough the Patriots have been able to hold off any and all distractions while adding three more Lombardi trophies to the case in the last five years.
