Patriots Have Granted Permission For Multiple Teams To Interview Josh McDaniels

The Patriots have given permission to teams to interview offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Special Teams coach Joe Judge. Perhaps this time McDaniels will not be returning next season. McDaniels was actually hired by the Indianapolis Colts two years ago, but dramatically resigned and returned to New England after Robert Kraft made some last minute maneuvers. After a lackluster season for the Patriots offense, maybe McDaniels will jump ship while his value is still high.

Any interviews will take place after the playoffs, or on the weekend between the conference championship and the Super Bowl, unless the Patriots happen to get eliminated sooner.

McDaniels, has been the Patriots offensive coordinator since 2012. McDaniels spent two seasons as the head coach of the Denver Broncos and was also the Patriots offensive coordinator from 2005-08. This would be a big jump for him.

Joe Judge has been the Patriots special teams coordinator since 2015.

According to the Boston Globe’s Jim McBride, the Giants have been granted permission to speak with McDaniels, the Patriots offensive coordinator, and Judge, the club’s special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach, about their head coaching vacancy.
Additionally, the Browns and Panthers were given the OK to speak with McDaniels about their head coaching vacancy.

McDaniels is fully focused on the playoffs at this time though.

“I’m 100 percent fully invested in getting ready for Tennessee and trying to put our best performance of the season out there on Saturday night,” McDaniels said “We have a lot of work to do. That’s where my focus will be. That’s where it’s at now and it’ll stay there. That’s the best thing for our team. It’s the best thing for me. We’re one of 12 teams that have an opportunity to compete in the postseason. And that’s the only way I’ll ever do it.

“Honestly it’s pretty easy for me in terms of my formula: I’m the offensive coordinator of the Patriots. We have a lot of work to do. We can improve in a lot of areas to try to get ready for this week. It’s our biggest game of the year against certainly the best team we’ve played. This is a postseason game, so our players deserve that, our coaches deserve that, and that’s what they’re going to get from me.”
