It appears Jimmy Butler, the star shooting guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves wants out. Unrepairable issues with head coach/team president Tom Thibodeau and Karl Anthony Towns have led to Butler requesting a trade. Butler has reportedly given a list of 3 teams he’d prefer going to. The Celtics were not one of those teams but Danny Ainge has long coveted Butler, and the rumor mill has been ongoing over the last few years with reports that he and Kyrie Irving want to play together. Butler who will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019 leaves the Timberwolves with little choice. Trade him for something now or let him go in free agency for nothing.
Minnesota's Jimmy Butler has three preferred destinations for a trade, league sources tell ESPN: The Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks. Those three teams have max cap space to sign Butler as a free agent in July.
