Jerry Rice Says Julian Edelman Is Uncoverable On NFL Network Appearance

Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice was asked yesterday what receiver had the best footwork in the NFL and without hesitation he said Julian Edelman.
Rice joined NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football’ on Tuesday and spoke about the Patriots star receiver.

“You’re not going to be able to cover him,” Rice said, “You can’t do it. He’s going to be able to get separation from you and make the catch.” “What I like about him too is his physicality,” Rice added. “He throws his body all over the field.”

Outside of New England, Edelman has never really been in the best receiver conversation, though Julian has routinely been Tom Brady’s most dependable go to guy for years. Edelman may not put up elite stats, but he has been a key reason to the Patriots success including many unforgettable moments during the biggest games.

The squirrel is making his case late in his career for a possible induction in Canton. Some may say he doesn’t have the numbers but his career has mirrored that of Pittsburgh Steelers great Lynn Swann whose postseason heroics also gave him an edge. In Swann’s 9 year career he has 336 Receptions for 5462 yards and 51 touchdowns. By comparison Edelman has 562 receptions for 6,053 yards and 34 touchdowns, but when you add in Edelman’s postseason numbers, they crush everyone except Rice. Edelman is currently 2nd all-time in the postseason in receptions with 115 and receiving yards with 1412. With the Super Bowl LIV MVP award and the miracle catch against Atlanta in Super Bowl LIII, Edelman has certainly added some serious credentials to his chances. The best part is he is still far from finished.
