Former Patriots WR Reche Caldwell Was Killed By Armed Robbery Saturday Night



Former New England Patriots wide receiver Reche Caldwell, was shot and killed Saturday night, according to TMZ.com.

According to Caldwell’s mother, Reche had gone back to his house in Tampa to get a jacket before going on a date with his girlfriend when he was ambushed by armed robbers. Reche’s girlfriend says a “couple of people” jumped out of bushes trying to rob him.

Reche was shot in the leg and chest. Caldwell’s mother said Reche died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

A former second-round pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, Caldwell played six years in the league for the Chargers, Patriots and Redskins. Reche played for the Patriots in 2006 and had 61 receptions for 760 yards and 4 touchdowns.

“He was a good person who smiled all of the time,” his mother said “He tried to help everyone he could. He was the type of guy who would take his shirt off his back and give it to you.”

Reche was 41 years old.
