Bill Belichick Will Call All The Defensive Plays For The Patriots This Season

In a break from the norm, the Patriots will forego hiring a defensive coordinator this season and the hoodie will fill the position. According to the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin, Belichick who has long been known as a defensive mastermind will be calling all his own plays for the defense this season. Greg Schiano was recently hired to handle the duties but abruptly resigned after taking over for Brian Flores who handled the defensive play calling last season before taking over as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

At this point it is kind of late in the process to go looking for a new coordinator so this makes a lot of sense for Belichick to handle the job. He often chimes in any way and normally coaches the defensive line during the game as well as let his coaches know when to call blitzes. Perhaps this will be a great learning experience for the younger coaches on the team that could ultimately ascend to a higher role next season. With Belichick running his own show on the defense, it is certain to spell bad news for opposing players around the league. Who better to run the show than the master himself?
